Public Island My take on an addition to the fishing outpost - Mirefall Atoll

Mirefall Atoll is the latest high-stakes island addition to the Fishing Outpost. This toxic, swampy realm offers a fresh level of difficulty that will test your skills, strategy, and resource management. Here’s a concise overview of what you need to know:

Unlocking Mirefall Atoll

  1. Fisherman’s Call:
Upon Reaching Fishing level 30 Speaking with Any fishing NPC at the Fishing Outpost or Backwater Bayou will result in the following message. “The Fisherman wants to speak with you!”
As an alternative, Fisherman could Call you through abiphone, if His contact was made accesible.
  2. The Fisherman’s Quest:
Meet the Fisherman, who reveals that a mysterious new island has appeared on his radar. He hands you the Map to the New Adventure.
  3. Entry Unlock:
Deliver the map to Captain Corin at the Fishing Outpost. Once he reviews it, Mirefall Atoll is unlocked on your Radar Menu, allowing you to travel to the island.

Unique Mechanics

Dense, Contaminated Waters & Line Breakage

  • High Density: The Atoll’s waters are extremely polluted, increasing the strain on your fishing lines.
  • Line Breaking: Even robust lines are at risk (e.g., the Titan Line has a 1 in 2,500 chance of snapping, while more delicate lines break more easily). Later in the progression, you would be able to obtain tougher lines, that have lower chance of breaking, or... don't break at all!
  • Line Repairs: Don’t worry about losing expensive gear—Roddy is available to repair broken lines for a fair fee, ensuring your best lines stay in play.

Radiation & Health Management

  • Radioactive Aura: The island is soaked in a low-level radioactive field that, by default drains 0.05% of your health per second, and natural regeneration is disabled.
  • Water Exposure: Standing near water doubles your radiation damage, and full immersion quadruples it.
  • Drowning Hazard: With movement reduced by 80% in these sludge-filled waters, drowning is a serious risk, inflicting an additional 5% health loss per second when out of air.
  • Healing Items: Although natural regeneration is off, healing items still work—but their effectiveness is reduced. New radiation-mitigating items are also introduced to help manage exposure.
  • Enemy Effects:Many sea creatures inflict "Radiation Blight," a status effect that can temporarily or permanently increase your radiation exposure, exacerbating health loss. Each radiation blight % is an increase to your base radiation, so for example having 100% radiation blight, doubles your base radiation
    • Example Sea Creature: Contaminated Fisherman

      • Overview:
The Contaminated Fisherman is a legendary sea creature that epitomizes the island’s danger. It inflicts a permanent 50% Radiation Blight on you and, every 5 seconds, sends out a pulse causing 500% temporary Radiation Blight for 3 seconds.
      • Significance:
Encounters with this creature showcase the deadly radiation mechanics and serve as a prime example of the dangerous nature of Mirefall Atoll. It also drops Uranium, which feeds into the new crafting and collection systems.

Water Purification System

Purification in Mirefall Atoll is vital not only for reducing radiation but also for unlocking hidden treasures.

  • Process:
    • Collection: Use a special bucket to gather contaminated water from the Atoll.
    • Purification: Bring the water to Dr. Urnison, the eccentric marine scientist stationed at a makeshift purification lab.
  • Dr. Urnison’s Guidance:
    When you arrive, he exclaims:
“At last, a true adventurer! These cursed waters hold secrets—and toxins. Pour your contaminated water into my purifier. With a blend of science and madness, we’ll clean this sludge, reduce its deadly radiation, and reveal the treasures hidden within. Every drop purified might change your fortunes!”
  • Outcome:
Purifing water may lower the island's radiation and yields rare resources that help you progress further in the game.

New Collection

  • Uranium Drops:
While Backwater Bayou didn't bring any new collections, new sea creatures in Mirefall Atoll drop Uranium—a valuable resource that can be collected and refined into advanced crafting materials (eg. items that help deal with Radiation) . This forms the basis of a new collection system for dedicated Atoll Fishermen.

Designer's Note:
Mirefall Atoll is intentionally designed as a high-challenge, 10–15 hour endgame, interesting, and filled with content experience. This island isn’t meant for endless grinding; instead, its harsh mechanics and unforgiving environment are crafted to push even the most skilled fishers to their limits. Embrace the struggle—only the best will prevail in these toxic, treacherous waters.
I don't want the island to be an annoying grind like hotspots became, rather, I want it to have interesting story, and give you a challange that's rewarding, not to be an island you spend endless hours in praying to just be done with the bestiaries.

Final Thoughts

Mirefall Atoll challenges you with its dense, toxic waters, constant radiation, and the ever-present risk of line breakage. While healing items work, they’re less effective, making every decision critical. With a unique purification system led by Dr. Urnison and essential support from Roddy for line repairs, this update demands strategy and skill from even the most seasoned Skyblock fishers.

What do you think of this idea? Would you be interested in trying out the Mirefall Atoll?

This toxic, swampy realm
kinda similar to the backwater bayou ngl
  1. Fisherman’s Call:
Speak with any fishing NPC at the Fishing Outpost or Backwater Bayou. They’ll hint, “The Fisherman wants to speak with you!”

this is kinda unnecessary and easy lol, maybe make a fishing level req before the quest starts?

oh ok like elytra in vanilla!

over the line breaking is interesting, but it shouldn't be a percentage chance, instead should be based on durability imo

uh wow

ooooh i like this

Each radiation blight % is an increase to your base radiation, so for example having 100% radiation blight, doubles your base radiation
should only be temporary imo

so like a new form of the fossil excavator? but free?

imo all sea creatures caught in this area should drop uranium, kinda like how all corrupted sea creatures drop obfuscated trophy fish, but then atoll-specific sea creatures should have increased uranium drops

wait that's it?
New radiation-mitigating items are also introduced to help manage exposure
what about this???
Later in the progression, you would be able to obtain tougher lines, that have lower chance of breaking, or... don't break at all!
and this???
advanced crafting materials (eg. items that help deal with Radiation)
and this???

yeah this idea is pretty cool but i would love to see it expanded upon
Overall, 9/10 post, could definitely be expanded to improve it to 10/10

yeah my first version had like, everything, even designed the main questline and all the sea creatures and loot, but i decided to leave it off in the final thread as i think that those ideas werent refined enough + im not the best at making stuff, and even worse at balancing it, i can post the whole thread if you want, but dont consider it the suggestion (+ its a bit wonky due to chat gpt just straight up forgetting some of the stuff i told him to include)

This actually i missed out when shortening the suggestion, my aim for this island was fishing 30 (yes its a bit high, but it was supposed to be a really challanging island to begin with) i added it back now
