Is it just me or is Soul Whip kinda acting weird?

I’m making this post because I have noticed a few weird things happening with Soul Whip, however I don’t have any clear outline of the glitches, nor how to consistently replicate them.

First, to describe the occurrences
  • Sometimes Flay will be unable to damage a sea creature.
  • If the previous glitch is occurring, that sea creature may eventually disappear without dropping xp or loot
Though I cannot empirically prove that the first point is not user error and my accuracy just sucks, I can attest that my fishing xp would fail to increase following the disappearance, and that the disappearance was not due to player damage, suffocation or other environmental damage, or some combination of lag and the void as various sea creatures in my tests have disappeared suddenly and with a large portion of health remaining, most notably a titanoboa at 11 million health, and they never showed the damage indicators, and several tests were in areas like the phlheglblast pool.

I would like to ask if anyone else has experienced anything similar?

and to pose a few more specific questions
  • Has anyone with Flaming Flay experienced something similar?
  • What sea creatures have definitively been affected by this?
100% Guaranteed
  • Pyroclastic Worm
  • Fire Eel
  • Titanoboa
  • Wiki Tiki
Potentially
  • Alligator
  • Blue Ringed Octopus
  • Sea Emperor
  • Water Hydra
  • and probably more
  • Does anyone have any idea for a method to consistently repeat this
Thank you for giving this post your time. I hope I’m just going crazy, however this is a major glitch if I’m not.

Does this happen 100% of the time with the sc listed?

A common theme I see among these mobs is that they are all combinations of multiple entities. Don't know if this is a reason, but could be related.
i stopped using it against boa and tiki after the first. It’s kinda consistent on the worm and eel but ima test it more tomorrow. I spent most of today fishing in the bayou, ima do more lava fishing tomorrow tho
I've noticed that Flaming Flay doesn't do *3* damage when attacking sea creatures to trigger Ferocity.
Im pretty sure that’s cuz fero procs don’t include the damage multiplier. I could be wrong though

wow anothe rbug
seems like all the 100% guaranteed ones are all multiple head ones w/ 1 nametag, or multiple entities as one enemy
