How to enjoy Skyblock (pure opinions)

First, change your way of looking at the game.
What do you want to get from Skyblock? Collection? SBLV? If you want those, you would not enjoy Skyblock.
Skyblock used to be peak because players would aim for their own small goals, and not the main path that most take.
Skyblock is a free world, there are lots of things you could do that wouldn't help you progress as the others, but your aim is not progressing, it's to have fun. I found that most players don't find this game interesting is because they follow a pattern of progressing which would get boring.
In fact, even skyblock youtube videos are boring because they follow a progression pattern which is pretty predictable. The best Skyblock content ever was the Potato War and the videos about the hunt for the Kuudra Mandible. We enjoyed those because people did more than just Skyblock, they used more than just a grind. Of course grind was in there, but in both cases players used tactics that you would never had expected.
So change your way of looking at the game. Skyblock is for fun and experiments, not just for brainless grinding.
Next, socialize.
I know it sounds pretty stupid, a Skyblock player out of everything socializing.
I meant in game.
The chat is not just for you to spam lowballing and auctions, it's also used to chat. And that would make Skyblock a hundred times better for you and your friend. Try to chat and maybe parkour around the map while you're at it? It's a great way of hanging out and taking a break from the grind.
Lower your expectations, do something stupid.
Don't do something really stupid like giving away your acc to a discord bot, but do something stupid like a challenge that doesn't really contribute to your skyblock level.
The potato war is another great example. Technoblade aimed for No.1 in potatoes that would earn him literally nothing, but he still did for the sake of it. Stupid? Yes. Entertaining and fun? Definitely. Earning both a title and the best content ever.
In fact, make an event with some of your friends. Do something simple and stupid. We don't need Hypixel Admins to host an event, we can make some ourselves. Do a stupid stunt, make a chaotic event, all will make your experience a lot better.

i haven’t read the replies or even the post yet lest they influence my answer to the title question.

How to enjoy skyblock?
I cannot tell you how you can enjoy skyblock, so instead I’ll tell you how i’ve enjoyed skyblock for five and a half years.

1. Have goals
2. Exert agency
3. Embrace Spontaneity
4. Select Interaction

Have Goals
Skyblock offers you no guide, no plot, no ending or grand confluence of fate. You need to create your own objectives and carry out the steps necessary to achieve them. Without doing this, you will have no reason to grind, or the grinds you may do will be worthless. This is a basic human skill that pretty much every player will do. Whether it be get enough damage to one tap a miner zombie or manually grind out bobbin time v for your final piece of magma lord, it’s almost automatic. And though elementary, it is crucial to skyblock. For the sake of brevity, I will elaborate upon this point no further than to say, consciously realize your goals in a hierarchy of hierarchies built upon the most basic simple tasks possible.

Exert Agency
You are not bound by your goals. If you change, they may also change. If you don’t care for a goal anymore, then set it aside. You are not at the top of the aforementioned hierarchy, you are beyond it. It changes at your beck and call. If you don’t want to do something, you do not have to.

Additionally, you are not bound by anyone else’s rules. You do not need a divans drill if you want to use a gemstone gauntlet instead. the efficiency you’d be losing would mean nothing to everyone except you and you can decide what it means to you. You do not have to follow any standard route of progression, use any standard armor set. You can reforge your midas to odd just because you want to. Be as inefficient and ineffective and slow as you want, if you don’t wanna use a hype, don’t.

However just because you made don’t care for goal doesn’t mean you should get rid of progress towards it. This is a key part, keep your progress. Don’t sacrifice it for another goal. PRESERVATION ALWAYS TAKES PRECEDENCE

Embrace Spontaneity
Don’t be afraid to be dumb. Don’t be afraid to take risks. See a skin you like on the auction house, buy it if you want to. It’s a game, the money is meaningless, you can get more. Splurge because you can. Wanna start farming suddenly? Go buy some equipment and plant some crops. Open a stack of presents in hub 1 for the fun of it.

Ultimately, the money is meaningless but the experience and the equipment is not.

Not only that, but do what you want when you want to. Because of the preservation, you will likely have a ton of leftover gear that you can just pickup if you feel the urge to do whatever.

Spontaneity doesn’t just mean wasting money, it’s doing something unplanned, unscripted. This spontaneity often will push you towards goals, even those you’ve set aside, and will make the process less monotonous and more fun. If you feel the drive to farm, even though you haven’t in months, do it, and do it in a way that’ll make progress towards one of your goals

Select Interaction
This one will be short. Skyblock is a social game. You should not discard that aspect of it. Give new players advice if they ask for it. Crouch and uncrouch rapidly if you see another player. Offer coords in crystal hollows, be amiable.

However, you should also read the lobby, see how the vibe is, and often elect to just sit back and watch the chaos, but other times maybe join in the chaos, or maybe just chat cuz it’s chill. Select what interactions are worthwhile.
