This post was originally going to be about which will be released first, silksong or the foraging update, but I ended up putting so much effort documenting the foraging update im somewhat swapping it (i still want yalls opinions)
For context, Silksong had its second confirmed release date just a few days ago with the Switch 2 announcement (The first one being in 2023(?) where silksong was confirmed to release by xbox)
I find it funny that both of these are probably not releasing before I die of old age, but they both have had multiple 'release dates' (silksongs a bit more confirmed), as well as both announced to release in 2025 for sure this time (trust)
If there is any posts i missed abt the foraging update, please let me know! The forums is so awful to find old posts, so I only cited the ones I knew existed that mentioned it!
I also wanted to make one final note, but Hypixel has said multiple times the amount of stress this update is causing, as well as the massive weight of the expectations it is causing. If anyone at hypixel sees this, In my opinion if the update is to release with only the bare minimum of what has been leaked, I still think it will be One of, if not the best update Hypixel has seen (doubtful they will see it, but ya never kn0w)
EDIT: It got pointed out to me that the backwater bayou update had talked about the foraging update. It completely slipped my mind when i was writing this, but oh well. I added it in, but it really doesnt change much for my prediction of possible news within may or june. Honestly if anything it further adds to the point of getting news/an alpha in mid-late june

So here is the History of the Foraging update!
Foraging Update:- Has been a meme since practically the launch of the game (June 2019)
- First subtly talked about in 2021, with the '1.0 design threads'
- June 30th, 2021, 'Alpha Net - A new way to test SkyBlock Updates' had released alongside the first original 1.0 design threads. While they talked about many updates here such as the crystal hollows, a combat island revamp, and skyblock 1.0, the big fish in a lot of peoples eyes was the foraging update releasing 'later in 2021'
- May 2nd, 2023, the final '1.0 design thread' was posted titled '1.0 Design Thread 9 - Foraging Island...'. This is where we got our big first glance at the foraging update
- At this time they were "still in the early stages of the Foraging Island's development" and that "[Hypxiel] cannot provide and ETA or more details at this time"
- Dec 30, 2023, Jayavarmen posted the "Skyblock 2023 - Recap...", along with some big news about the foraging update
- They had made some major progress toward the update, but "[did] not have a release date yet" BUT that "[They're] hoping to get on Alpha for some preliminary testing HOPEFULLY early this year"
- We can extrapolate that they thought they might have an alpha test in Q1 or Q2 of 2024 (basically Jan-June)
- They had made some major progress toward the update, but "[did] not have a release date yet" BUT that "[They're] hoping to get on Alpha for some preliminary testing HOPEFULLY early this year"
- April 9th, 2024, the Hypixel Team posted the "Quick Design Thread: Foraging Island"
- (I believe this was our first introduction to the Galatea Archipelago, a set of three islands that are coming with the foraging update. What follows is information in regards to the foraging update, mainly on the first island)
- this was a big post that gave everyone some massive hope on what was to come, introducing many features of the new island(s), a lot of which has been seen in previous skills
these include:- Tree gifts - a feature that "encourag[es] group play" in the decimation of the forest
- Sweep, Toughness, and Axe Throwing - all mechanics for destroying trees (similar to mining, as well as axe throwing from the AOTS)
- The Heart of the Forest - taken off of the success of the Heart of the Mountain
- The Starlyn Sisters - Three sisters who "don't put you against other players", but instead encourage you to increase your own performance
- Mystic Damage - A new damage type specified for the Galatea region (which imo is only there bcuz they dont know how to balance the hype / dont want the update to be powercrept on release)
- Pressure - a new underwater mechanic which was taken from a scrapped idea (the abyss)
- God Temples - Three new gods that grant global stats, all of which can increase in strength with the increase in their worshippers
And Last but most certainly not least
- Hunting - A new skill, something we havent gotten since the Social update (or the Dungeoneering update, both of which happened in mid-late 2020 respectively)
- Tree gifts - a feature that "encourag[es] group play" in the decimation of the forest
- With this quite massive leak in April 2024, we had a good feeling the update was coming soon. The admins already said that "[The foraging] update has already took too long," which lead a lot of people to believe that the alpha was coming in soon.

- Dec 18, 2024 - The 2024 Recap post
- Along with talking about what had been achieved in 2024, plans for more chocolate factory (yay
), and some other upcoming updates, they talked about why yet another year went by with no foraging update
- The admins say that "the first island of Galatea has almost finished development along with the new Hunting Skill," but that these "still have polishing and QA to undergo." They follow this up talking about moving over to the latest version and implementing some of its features
- Along with some pretty sick Resource pack leaks, they top off the end of the post saying that they plan on releasing the second island of Galatea, and another "very special place in time that should not come as a surprise to lore enthusiasts" (Side Note: I've always found that line confusing. A place in time, not a place. Does that mean we are time travelling in 2025?)
- This, for yet another time, puts a rough date on the first island of Galatea, as they say the also want to release the Second island of Galatea within this year.
- this should put the First island of Galatea to release within the first half of the year, at least if there is an alpha release for it. There is at least two other confirmed major updates at that point in time, in which Galatea was expected to release first. There are also many other updates in the works at this point in time

- Feb 27th, 2025 - Fishing Outpost project started
- A city project had appeared, and everyone's mind first ran to one place: The Foraging Update.
- Once people saw that it was called the Fishing Outpost, most left the theory of the foraging update behind, but some had other plans
- People had started trying to connect dots, that in reality, just weren't there.
- One infamous theory that went around was that since we saw a lot of lakes and water in the previous foraging posts, and that you fish in water, that meant that it was confirmed to be the foraging update
(The theory was aptly named "Fishing = water = foraging" by none other than yours truly, but yes, this was an active theory some took seriously)
- One infamous theory that went around was that since we saw a lot of lakes and water in the previous foraging posts, and that you fish in water, that meant that it was confirmed to be the foraging update
- There were many posts on whether this was going to be the foraging update or a fishing update, some even betting hundreds of millions of coins, showing how confident they were that it was going to be a foraging update
- Surprise surprise, the fishing outpost ended up being a fishing update :O (Okay I tried to be neutral for the large majority of this post but this is just kinda crazy to me that this was a theory that happened)
- A city project had appeared, and everyone's mind first ran to one place: The Foraging Update.
- March 18th 2025, the Backwater Bayou released, along with a cliffnote on the foraging update. it was said that if "all goes well," then the foraging update may "enter the Alpha phase within the next few months!" So that is some exciting news to hear... if that wasnt the third time that it was said to be coming to alpha soon... but this time has yet to be proven false, so lets be optimistic of what the future can hold!
- And That leads us to where we are today! With the Backwater Bayou launched a few weeks ago, and in the midst of an april fools event, we most likely wont hear much news for probably the rest of April. Will we get any news in May? How about in June? Only the future knows
