Purge rework / New disaster idea

I personally don't mind Purge, I think it works well enough, but I've heard a lot of complaints about it.
An issue with Purge is that it's not always a good idea to go kill people because it's risky, you'll lose hearts which are valuable, no matter how much time has passed. Not only that but often, Disasters themselves will do the work for you. The game does not incentivize you to go out of your way to kill people but rather stay in a safe spot until someone comes or people die by any other means.

My idea would be to turn Purge into Hitman.
Once this disaster starts, you are given a wooden sword and assigned a target to kill, with a meter tracker above your hotbar, just like the Werewolf one (when you're not the Werewolf).
If you kill your target OR the person who has you as their target, you are fully healed.
If you kill someone unrelated, you lose 5 hearts, but the game will leave you at one heart, unless you kill a second "bystander".
If your target dies before you could kill them, you are relieved of your hitman duties.
If this Disaster is primary, then you must kill your target to be able to win. If it's secondary, then it shouldn't be a requirement to win at the end.

Now for another Disaster idea:
Blizzard "Huddle up with others for warmth, find safety inside buildings or near fire!"
It would unleash a Blizzard, giving you 3 safety possibilities. Your experience bar would turn into a "cold bar", when it's fully depleted you start losing hearts.
This Disaster would probably be best on a new map designed specifically for it, if you had a map with torches, campfires etc... But it could work with all maps with the huddle mechanic as well as hiding inside buildings. I see it like Acid Rain but less deadly maybe, and more cooperation focused, and I think this gamemode could really use cooperative Disasters.

Why not die instantly? You screwed up someone elses game for nothing...
I don't think it'd be good to punish the player with an instant death, because you might kill someone you thought had you as your target. The idea is to promote moving around the map & add distrust (initially) to other players, more than Purge does currently. Losing half of your max health is a significant punishment for your mistake. And it shouldn't feel too bad to die to someone's mistake considering the short length of each games.

This purge idea is fine but I can't get around to the blizzard idea.

1. We already have too many sky based disasters and they're all annoying

2. The maps are way too spread out so this would end up being like hot potato, no one is going to be able to find each other.

Maybe if it just rained snowballs that do KB + 1.5 hearts + slowness effect for 30 seconds that would be ok ig, still I would hate that.

ngl just a "heavy snow" disaster could be fire
like:
-change weather to snow (would have to mess with biome maybe? im pretty sure skyblock has some weird stuff that messes with rain but idk how they do it)
-when snow touches a player they get slowness for a few seconds (reapplying at like same rate as acid rain or beacon maybe)
-I would say add blindness or smth but there arent levels for blindness and full on blindness would be so-so (bad) so maybe dont
-snow layers accumulate slowly over time (even to just a block would be fine)
-mutually exclusive with acid rain (because people hate acid rain which i dont but like it makes sense to not have rain and snow)

this could be pretty cool (probably closer to a secondary disaster than a primary disaster, but the more the merrier)

1. It'd be possible to survive with fire/lava and other players.
2. I disagree because people always gravitate towards buildings anyway. Like you'll always find 3+ people in the castle in Castle.

-mutually exclusive with acid rain (because people hate acid rain which i dont but like it makes sense to not have rain and snow)
That's kind of the point. Something similar to Acid Rain that doesn't feel as awful and has ways to prevent it other than the RNG Hard Hat.

No the Blizzard idea is great, I Remember it from Grians server, that was so much fun! They should add hails which would be ice blocks falling from the sky and dealing damage as well as slowing you down for 1s. Imo, all of the "something falls from the sky" diaasters are amazing, fun and they are my favorite ones!!!!

I don't really want to play MM Assassins in Disasters
Add an incentive for people to kill each other like this and I would just requeue any time I got it

A game having no PVP is a huge selling point and I think Purge should be removed.
Disaster survival, not death match!

I can see people being annoyed by it but I like this... Sky based disasters good... I like hiding in buildings...

Having more interactions with players is always more fun. Having almost everything be decided by something out of the players' control is not going to make this gamemode last.
Purge sucks because it doesn't make you want to fight others.
Werewolf has one player with OP effects making it difficult to fight back, so you have to crouch the whole time not to be seen and as the Werewolf people hiding makes it incredibly frustrating.
Hot Potato finally got put into an OK state, not a bad Disaster but not exactly the most exciting.

I don't want to fight others, if I wanted to I would be playing a PVP mode.
Also purge is not under my control, how much health I have when it starts, when it starts, who's near me. Not directly under my control.

I love having more interactions with players. I do not need to be forced to fight players in order to interact with them.
The game can last perfectly fine if it's thoughtfully developed, RNG is part of what makes games like these better for newer players, it allows players of all skill levels to win or lose.
Most people do not play games to, or have an interest in getting meaningfully good at them.

Said this in one of the discords but its too great not to put in this thread,

"i feel like adding something to a game thats only purpose is to draw in a (primarily) toxic community just to make the majority of players experience worse is a bad thing to do".

Most purge players only play this game for purge and flaunt about it, its annoying.

You're literally making up people to be mad about here... People do not play Disasters for the PVP. The 3 PVP Disasters have been criticized/hated on since release.
There's always gonna be PVP Disasters, and this thread is to rework what is currently the most pointless one into something that's actually engaging.

I don't think it's worth reworking them to make them more engaging for the people who already have tons of engaging PVP games on every Minecraft minigames server out there.

It should either be pointless or be removed. Hypixel has already gone that rout in the past. It should be made as un-impactful as possible if it won't be removed.

So the thought process here is "I don't enjoy this aspect of Minecraft so I need it to be made completely unfun and pointless for everyone else"?

No but disasters isn't supposed to be a mode for pvp, most of the other modes are pvp so if people play this one they shouldn't have to pvp that much.

This is what you're advocating for.
Insisting that every single minigame be competitive and have PVP elements is opposite of appealing to a wide base of players. Most Minecraft players play extremely casually.

Disasters isn't a PVP-less mode. That's just entirely untrue, especially considering this is clearly based on Grian's old server's Disasters which did in fact, feature PVP.
In any case I fail to see how this is relevant to my idea of changing Purge from a boring uninteractive one (that still will force PVP anyway!) into a better one.

I'm advocating for a Disaster to be made better, which I'm gonna have to repeat myself, your argument that there should be no PVP in Disasters is entirely irrelevant to this thread. It is an aspect of the gamemode that is present, and will probably always be present. And thankfully for you, it'll be eventually less and less present when they add more Disasters.

I don't think Grian's disaster survival mode should be our base design for this game.
Sticking to that severely limits Disaster's potential on Hypixel.

It was good for YouTube, Hypixel's disasters won't have that same YouTube hype. It needs to be able to stand on its own.

It is not irrelevent to the thread. I think the suggestions in this thread would make disasters worse by further incentivizing PVP.
The most fun I have during purge is all the people around me refusing to fight each other. We'd rather all lose than be forced to fight!
Stop trying to encourage other people to attack us! Stop trying to force us to fight!
