NEW SCAM ALERT?! ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW NOT TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I MADE!

Hello y'all,
after the update, i logged on to see a person going and advertising a 100m-150m money making method, lets call him John. and since i was waiting for my AH Flips to fill, i thought i would visit this guys island to check it out. After all, i've seen other scams like the discord scam, what possibly could go wrong? of course, quite a few people joins, follow by a person declaring (lets call him bob) that John was just farming social exp and it was a scam. all the people but Bob, Me and of course, John ,who advertised it stayed. He said he did have one, and Bob 'payed him' (reflection he probably didn't pay). afterward, he said it wasn't a scam and i payed John too, who gave me the idea that listing a expensive item at a low price like 100k, then cancelling it (to fool the AH flip bots) then listing it a expensive price would fool the bots into buying the items at a high price. I of course wen't into it and tryed it with my main weapon, my felthorn reaper, recombed, fabled (worth roughly 55m ish) problem was i was still partied to John with Bob as leader. Bob then summoned me after i was going to cancel the auction and bought it for 100k. then he blocked me and disbanded party. i know, all i can do is grind my felthorn back, ini fact i have 30m+ from flipping, but it's a shame i lost the money. I've come to some conclusions, Bob and John were working togtheter, as, looking for sympathy, i visited John's island, and said someone like 'y'know the party leader' i was trying to get his name as i forgot it, but John took it the wrong way, he probably though i was accusing him, saying that he knew Bob and he was masterminding it or smth. so he kicked me and blocked me. what we can all take away from this - NEVER, EVER TRUST ANYONE ONE THIS SERVER. like never, unless you know they're an actually good person.
here some stuff anyway:
- if somethings looks scammy, it probably is
-NEVER list your items on ah for a low price
- Always disband a party

anyway thats what i've gotta say. anyway, since i got scammed, i'm concidering making a new profile, i mean, i have a like 6 years old one that has little to no progress, except a crab hat. should i delete that one, try and get pro rank or smth else?

sorry everyone for the block of text. have you have a good day!

who gave me the idea that listing a expensive item at a low price like 100k, then cancelling it (to fool the AH flip bots) then listing it a expensive price would fool the bots into buying the items at a high price.
???
how is this even theoretically supposed to work.

The method might actually work?
I've seen a bunch of people listing new firesales at a extremely low price and then cancelling them.
Not sure what they are doing it for...

They want people with big purse buy the more expensive BINS from them.
In most cases small things are changes, like 1 missing 0, or k (1000) instead of m (1000000) etc

thats not for bots tho, they just put up smth 500m and start listing 500coins(and cancel)
some idiot might fall for it but ive never seen anyone acc falling for it

No, even then.
Don't trust people that you can't slap IRL.

This scam isn't new btw.
NO scam currently going around is new. It just happens to still being used because there are people that can't use common sense smh. Same in any other online game btw.
I mean, even those scams have some benefit
You pay a relatively small price to learn basics of not blindly trusting random bozos you just met that promise you riches and insane returns

You much rather would learn it in a video game losing few hours of progress than to learn it much later IRL, losing your house and life savings instead

if this happens to you first do /p leave and then cancel so he cant warp u out so his friend can buy it for cheap also report them

yeah a lot of ppl alr said but this one aint that new

a few years back a friend fell for a similar thing with just a bit of a different initial process (how much did you end up paying for the '100-150m mmm' lol)

but the scam just follows a few generic steps
  1. gain trust of player

  2. become party leader

  3. explain method and bait them into doing it

  4. when the item is setup on ah block them from cancelling order
now there are a bunch of methods for step 1, 3, and 4, but im not gonna explain them bcuz i dont want ppl to actually try and do it

If you want to be safe, here is what you should do whenever doing something with someone you dont know irl

  • never follow any links externally (if ur in game dont, if ur in discord dont) (also dont download anything)
  • never give any info that isnt public (i.e. info from emails for fake 2fa discords, acc info, etc.)
  • always be party leader when interacting
  • always assume they are trying to scam you

a really good thing you can do as well is to try and get some sort of net profit from the scammers. some examples:
  • give a smaller collat than the total price of what you are getting (for things like reforge / essence scams)
  • try and make the scammers invest into you (if they want you to 'try' something or help them, try and get an upfront payment of sorts for insurance, also deters scammers if they keep losing money)

OMG thank you for the advice!

I have never seen such a scam before, I just barely resisted falling for it! Thanks to you, I managed to not get scammed.

People like you are the reason I am able to play this game. However, I'm so sorry to hear this has happened to you :(
