I agree with most of these, especially number 2 since it takes so long and number 5 because I have done that way too much (I accidentally bid twice on an overpriced dandilion so yea :p)

Ugh I agree this is so annoying. I sorta wish it could just show the first person who bid higher than you, since everyone else who bids you already know its more than you. Maybe there could be a command to toggle it, and also one to toggle it appearing in other games.

What I do when I'm mining redstone is I mine it in the tunnel from lapis to redstone or from redstone to emerald. As long as you don't get too close to the top, no pigmen can get you. I prefer using it for other ores too because there is less mobs, I can get more than one type of ore at once...

I think the higher level compacter crafts it to enchanted in your minion. Other than that, I don't really know.

Well main problem with the first and third solution is that if the alpha is afk or just really really bad, the round will never end. The others I guess are ok, but seem unfair to the innocents. Even if you are killed first, with some skill you can infect at least a few more people, and maybe...

I bought one from auctions and it does 100 damage. I'm pretty sure its in the ghast collection but since I haven't collected any ghast tears yet I'm not sure what level it is on. I saw a lot more of these later on tonight, so I'm wondering if it was actually easy to get based on the low prices.
