UPDATE JULY 18: We have removed Toy Store from Hide and Seek Party Pooper. It will return for the holidays! :)

    Arcade Update Part III

Over the course of the summer, we plan on releasing another update to Arcade Games with more bugfixes and new content. This is part of an overall effort to improve Arcade, which was started with the move of Zombies and Hide and Seek to the Arcade Lobby a few weeks ago.

Part III of the planned summer Arcade updates will have new Zombies content including:
    • New Map with a smaller footprint to offer a different style of gameplay.
    • Support for parties of 4 to select Hard or RIP modes in both original maps, Dead End & Bad Blood.
Developer Note: [ To keep waiting time between updates shorter we won’t be offering different difficulties in newer maps although some maps may be more difficult than others. ]
As always let us know if you run into any issues with this update. Enjoy! :)

  2. Developer Summary

The last arcade update, we released Zombies and Hide n Seek into the Arcade lobby. We knew some of the community was not going to be happy with the decision but we believed it was the right direction for both communities. However, I do feel we could have done a better job communicating why we made this decision and the intention of future updates to Arcade Games which I'm going to cover in this summary.

Taking a game from prototype to full release is a huge amount of work it took us nearly over 6 to 8 weeks of active development time for both BedWars and Duels and the work doesn’t stop there. Over 90% of this work is spent on non-core gameplay features which is necessary to support a full release, but for some games can have little impact on the core gameplay. We felt that this was the case for both Zombies and Hide n Seek which is part of the reason why we moved them to Arcade Games.

Another big factor in the decision was that Zombies is very time consuming to update designing custom mobs, balancing rounds, fixing exploits, etc, and we didn’t help ourselves when adding in difficulty levels and endless mode as it only increased the time it took between updates. Our aim was to make sure we can add new maps quicker in the future and this meant keeping the game simple and removing some features that less than 10% of Zombies community was playing (RIP, Hard & Endless).

We believed that the Arcade, Zombies and Hide n Seek communities would benefit from being with each other, as players would break up longer Zombies games with quicker games. Since release, we have seen an active player count increase in both Zombies & other Arcade games which you can see below:

This graph shows a steady increase in the concurrent player count in most arcade modes.

These Graphs show the prototype and arcade counts of Zombies and Hide n Seek which results in nearly double the active players in zombies.

As spoken about in our July Major Developer Summary, we are changing the way we are releasing updates and will be communicating with the community about how this is an important step for the team to offer more regular updates, not only for Arcade games but others. Hopefully, you are already noticing some of these changes and understand that just because Zombies has joined the Arcade family doesn’t mean it won’t get updates. We had already made plans for our next update so here's a little insight.

Part of Arcade Summer Update III:
    • New Map with a smaller footprint to offer a different style of gameplay.
    • Support for parties of 4 to select Hard or RIP modes in both original maps, Dead End & Bad Blood.
Developer Note: [ To keep waiting time between updates shorter we won’t be offering different difficulties in newer maps although some maps may be more difficult than others. ]

I hope I’ve been able to answer some questions and that you can enjoy this latest arcade update in the meantime.

  7. Each line is tracking the number of players playing each mode at one time. Arcade has a lot of modes...
